Wow, she is tiny....
Yesterday I got to hold another miracle in my arms, little Saige Elizabeth. She was born on the 30th and weighed 9lbs! When I first go to hold her, there was such a flood of memories, of course to be fair, my youngest is 6, so it wasn’t that long ago I held a baby. I was reminded of how fragile they are. Her tiny hands, her little head, with the small little soft spot that will eventually close up, and her light breathing. Such a precious little life, but one that is pretty defenseless when it comes down to it. She requires around the clock care and needs to be tended to for her food, changing, and more.
What also struck me is that a little over 2,000 years ago, Jesus Christ was this tiny. He didn’t come as a god, streaming down from heaven on a chariot of fire. He had no legions of angels surrounding Him. He was not a bulky, muscular Hercules type either. He was a little baby. The God of the whole universe sent His Son down as the most fragile being possible. Jesus gave His spot up in the throne room, no doubt a wonderful and beautiful place, to be confined inside a womb, thrust out into the world in a filthy manger, and relied upon Mary and Joseph for everything. If I were writing a story about a god, it certainly wouldn’t have started with this.
As we look at the life of Jesus, we also see this same gentleness throughout. He didn’t take up a sword. He didn’t appear with flashy lights, or anything resembling nobility. He was often seen walking with His flock, in basic clothing of the time, wearing sandals. He did not live in a castle, but slept closest to His people.
The connection that Jesus brought to us, purposefully, beautifully, and simple, demonstrates His desire to be with us. He doesn’t look down on us as a king, rather He looks directly at us because we are His.
When Jesus says “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” He is not giving us a challenge. It is not some insurmountable set of hurdles we must overcome. It is a hand that is always out and ready to accept us.
Whether the birth of a child awakens your heart, or some other God sent wonder, His invitation remains open. We are designed to be with Him...He is waiting.
Share the joy of Christ with somebody today....share that basic, loving, invitation....
Peace to you and yours.
