I was reading through a devotional today where the author talked about Jesus and His relationship with the Apostles.
Jesus was God, yet full man. He came to the earth to demonstrate who God is to us, as His children. He showed us love and sacrifice.
There is something that perhaps you gloss over as I did. Jesus relies on us to continue the work He started. He relied on the 11 Apostles to continue the work He had begun. In turn, those Apostles relied on others and so on and so on, up to you and I. Jesus is not physically here. God does not appear regularly in clouds. He gave us the Holy Spirit, not to save us already saved, but to embolden us to carry on the mission He started.
The reason that the Way was so powerful, was because people found salvation through the resurrection. They found hope in this new and promised life. They became bold, but the recognition of that boldness to those around them, was even more profound because of the circumstances in that culture.
Our culture is ripe for a bold contrast. We do not need to lead a perfect life, Jesus did that already. We just need to be genuine. He, Jesus, told us, to continue His work by spreading the Gospel and leading the lost to Him. Look at the headlines today...Suicide, depression, anxiety and on. We may not have a Roman emperor lording over this culture, but we have an equally destructive sense of helplessness and dispair.
Aren’t you glad somebody shared Hope with you? Go and share that with somebody this week, many around you, could certainly use it!
